The PoetHouse is proud to present some of the most unique and creative educational opportunities in Central Oregon. cada|casa is the name of our youth outreach and educational division of the PoetHouse. Taught by PoetHouse resident artists and other passionate members of the community, cada|casa classes redefine what community education can mean. casa is an acronym for community, academics, sports, and arts, while cada is the same in Spanish (comunidad, academia, deportes, arte). cada casa in Spanish means, every house, for hopefully every house can contribute or participate in what the PoetHouse has to offer. Through cada|casa, the PoetHouse has offered classes for over 150 students, including Tumalo Middle School, Bend High School, J Bar J, Icon City, and Deschutes County Mental Health. Winter, 2011 classes:

•The Mural Project: Be part of the design, proposal, and painting in one of Bend's few public murals.

•Screen Printing & T-Shirt Design: Learn the screen printing (silk screening) process used to create poster art, t-shirts, and great reproducible art.

•THREADS: The Half-Recycled, Economic Apparel Design School; make your own clothing by use of other recycled clothes.

•Photography Exposed: Learn about the various types of photography, shooting & framing techniques, and showing work.

•SPIT: Spoken Poetry is Transformational: Students learn how to write and perform slam poetry.

•Contemporary / Hip-Hop Dance Ensemble: A collaborative teaching of performance choreography that entails the techniques and styles of hip-hop& contemporary dancing.

•Portfolio Development: explore examples of contemporary work in order to open up the minds of students to artistic possibilities and expand their own portfolio.

•Hip-Hop Dance: Learn how to Krunk, Break, Pop n' Lock, and more in this collaborative dance class.

•The Art of Stand-Up Comedy: Think you're funny? Learn how to write, develop, perform the craft of being.

• Puppets! (Creative Puppet & Doll Crafting): Create and play with puppets and whimsical dolls.

• Electronic Music Production: Learn how to create your own dubstep, glitch, hip hop and other genres using software synthesizers, drum machines and MIDI control.
